FAQ on tariffs and customs
1. Why am I being charged customs duty on my order?
From 29 August 2025, the United States removed its $800 de minimis threshold for most imports. This means that all goods entering the U.S. are now subject to customs duties and processing fees, regardless of value.
If your order is manufactured in China but shipped from the UK, U.S. Customs will apply the tariff rate for Chinese‑origin goods, not UK goods.
2. How does U.S. Customs decide the duty rate?
Duties are based on the country of manufacture (also called “country of origin”), not where the parcel is shipped from.
Even if your order is packed and dispatched from the UK, if it was made in China, the China‑specific tariff rate applies.
3. What is the current tariff rate for goods made in China?
Under the new rules, most goods manufactured in China are subject to additional U.S. import tariffs. The exact rate depends on the product category and its Harmonized System (HS) code. For many consumer goods, this can be 25% or more.
4. Who pays the customs duty?
The recipient (you) is responsible for paying any duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees when the parcel arrives in the U.S.

5. Will this delay my delivery?

6. How can I find out the exact duty before ordering?

The U.S. government introduced these changes to increase tariff collection and apply consistent rules to all imports, regardless of value. This affects most international sellers, not just us.

What is your returns policy?
To be eligible for a refund, clothing must be unworn, unmarked and returned in the original packaging and tags attached.
Our returns policy is 30 days from receiving your goods. If 30 days have past since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.

How do I ship my order back to you?
Place the item back within its original packaging and reseal the shipping bag.
Please use the included return form within your parcel.
Items must be unworn, unmarked with original tags / packaging attached.

Exchange Information
To be eligible for an exchange, clothing must be unworn, unmarked and returned in the original packaging and tags attached.
We can provide exchanges within 30 days of receiving your order. If you need to exchange an item please use the included form within your parcel and send back the item to us.
International Exchanges are currently at your cost. To qualify for an exchange - items must be unworn, within original packaging and tags attached to be accepted for exchange. Please include the items and size you require exchanging to, if there is an increase in the order total a payment link will be emailed to you.

Faulty Items
If you believe an item is faulty please email info@blackfortequestrian.com please attach pictures and include your order number if you can. We will investigate and come back to you with a resolution.
International Returns
We are not liable for any customs/duty charges, when sending a return, you must clearly state on the parcel ‘UK Return – All Tax & Duties Paid’ – Should we receive a return, where this information has not been made clear and taxes & duties have been charged, we will not accept the return and it will be the customers responsibility to clear these charges.
Refunds
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will notify you of the approval of your refund. Please note shipping costs are non refundable. Once approved, your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within 7 days.
Late or missing refunds
If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again. It may take some time before your refund is officially posted. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted.If you’ve done all of this and you still have not received your refund yet, please contact us at info@blackfortequestrian.com

My international delivery hasn't arrived?
If your parcel hasn't arrived after 14 full working days (Mon-Fri) please email us at info@blackfortequestrian.com so we can start our investigations. We use a traceable shipping service and we will do everything we can to secure details on the lost parcel.
We ask during this time you are patient as these investigations can sometimes take up to 14 days, however rarely this long. We will endeavour to provide support and updates during this time to secure the location of your parcel.
